First Tree Walk at Delhi Zoo documents 35 tree species, promotes urban biodiversity awareness

National Zoological Park in New Delhi held its first 'Tree Walk @ NZP' on July 26, 2026, led by naturalist Sanjay Tiwari.

Participants documented 35 tree species during the walk, including native varieties that support birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.

The walk aimed to promote awareness about urban biodiversity and encourage public participation in documenting flora.

Experts taught tree identification using leaves, bark, flowers, fruits, and canopy structure, and discussed ecological benefits like carbon sequestration and air purification.

The zoo also held the seventh 'Sunday Bird Walk @ NZP', led by Nikhil Devasar, where 44 bird species were recorded.
