Gujarat court rejects closure report in killing of man, minor son, 7 cops to face criminal case

A Gujarat court in Surendranagar rejected the closure report of a Special Investigation Team in the 2021 killing of wanted criminal Hanif Khan Malek and his minor son.

The court ordered registration of a criminal case against seven policemen under sections 302 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code.

The court issued summons for the seven cops to appear on August 8.

The SIT had submitted a 'C-summary' report, which the court found insufficient, after considering forensic evidence and eyewitness statements.

The petitioner, Hanif Khan's wife Sohanaben, alleged the policemen fired indiscriminately without provocation and the incident was passed off as a genuine encounter.
