Caritas starts distributing US humanitarian aid in 2 towns near Havana

Caritas Cubana began distributing U.S. humanitarian aid in Bejucal and Alquízar, two towns near Havana.

The aid includes food kits with rice, beans, spaghetti, canned fish, and hygiene items like soap and solar lamps.

The shipment is the first of a $60 million U.S. program, part of a planned $100 million in aid to Cuba.

Distribution is controversial due to U.S.-Cuba political tensions and a U.S. energy embargo imposed by President Donald Trump.

The kits are intended for the most vulnerable Cuban families and contain enough food for 10 days.
