HC stays order declaring Chandigarh Golf Club ‘public authority’ under RTI

The Punjab and Haryana high court stayed a single judge order declaring Chandigarh Golf Club a 'public authority' under the RTI Act, 2005.

The club appealed the May 29 judgment, arguing it does not meet the criteria of 'substantial financing' and 'substantial control' under Section 2(h) of the RTI Act.

The club operates under a licence agreement since 2008, paying over ₹1.2 crore per annum to the UT administration, and maintains its premises from its own resources.

The division bench sought a response from the UT administration in response to the club's appeal.
