8-year-old falls into water-filled rly pit in Raichur, dies: Police

An eight-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water-filled pit dug for a railway construction project in Kapagal village, Manvi taluk, Raichur district, Karnataka.
The pit was about 9 to 10 feet deep, excavated for a railway column, and had filled with water; the child wandered off while playing with his parents at their agricultural land.
The boy's father filed a complaint against railway authorities, the contractor, and engineers for negligence under section 106(1) (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Manvi Police Inspector Somashekar Kencha Reddy confirmed an investigation is underway; the parents found the child, pulled him out, and rushed him to Lakshmi Hospital, Manvi, where he was declared dead.
Manvi MLA G Hampayya Nayak stated that action will be taken against the contractor and engineer responsible, and compensation will be provided to the family.
