NSE’s Ahimsa index targets cruelty-free investing
in5points
NSE Indices launched the Nifty 500 Ahimsa Index, which includes companies from the Nifty 500 that do not intentionally harm animals in their business.
The index is developed in collaboration with the Ahimsagain Foundation using the Ahimsa Investment Movement framework, classifying companies into green, orange, and red bands.
Companies in orange and red bands are excluded from the index; banks and Reliance Industries group stocks are not included.
The index aims to serve as a benchmark for asset managers and support passive investment products like ETFs and index funds.
At least two mutual fund houses, Quantum Mutual Fund and The Wealth Company MF, have launched schemes based on this theme.
