Elephant kills autorickshaw driver while being fed jaggery in Indore; mahout booked

A 49-year-old autorickshaw driver, Vijay Holkar, was trampled to death by an elephant in Indore while feeding it jaggery.

The incident occurred on July 25, 2026, in front of Raj Nagar police station and was captured on CCTV.

Mahout Umesh Goswami was booked under sections 106 and 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for negligence in controlling the elephant.

The elephant had been brought to a social event by seers and was roaming the city seeking alms when the victim approached.
