'We will see': CJI as Sena (UBT) moves SC challenging Speaker's approval of MPs' merger with Shinde faction
Shiv Sena (UBT) moved the Supreme Court challenging Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's approval of the merger of six of its MPs with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
The petition was mentioned before a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, who responded, "We will see."
Senior advocate Devadatt Kamat argued the merger has wider constitutional implications, calling it a "national phenomenon."
Following the Speaker's approval, Shiv Sena (UBT) strength in Lok Sabha dropped to three MPs, while Shinde-led Shiv Sena rose to 13 MPs, becoming the third-largest NDA constituent.
Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde said the six MPs joined for development, not personal gains, and advised the Uddhav Thackeray-led party to introspect.
