5-yr-old girl dies as tree falls on school bus

A five-year-old girl named Chiranvi died after a tree fell on a school bus near Kalleti Daivasthana on the Mani–Barimaru Road in Bantwal taluk, Karnataka.

The incident occurred around 5 pm on Wednesday amid heavy rain and gusty winds as the bus was ferrying students home from Sri Rama School, Kalladka.

Two other children were injured and are undergoing treatment; about 20 children were on the bus when the tree, estimated to be 200 to 300 years old, fell.

Minister for health and family welfare U T Khader directed that injured students receive comprehensive medical treatment at government expense and that immediate compensation be provided to Chiranvi’s family.

A case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station.
