US has deported over 4,800 Indians since 2025 as Trump admin steps up crackdown

The US has deported over 4,800 Indian nationals since 2025, including 1,273 in 2026 and 3,567 in 2025.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India verifies nationality before facilitating deportation returns.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar told Parliament that India has engaged US authorities to ensure deported Indians are not ill-treated.

Maltreatment incidents, including handcuffing of women and children on a deportation flight in February, prompted India to protest.

The number of Indians deported in 2025 was the highest since 2009, when 734 were sent back.
