11-year-old loses hand in Florida alligator attack

year-old Brodie Dituri was attacked by an alligator while fishing at Nelson's Fish Camp in Marion County, Florida.

His father Peter Dituri intervened immediately, forcing the alligator's jaws apart as bystanders called emergency services.

The attack resulted in the loss of Brodie's dominant right hand and required extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The family's annual Florida tradition has ended as Brodie is now afraid to return to the state.

Wildlife officers noted the father's quick response may have prevented a more severe outcome if the alligator had dragged the boy into deeper water.
