Karnataka to set up 1st govt-driven AI varsity: CM

Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar announced India's first government-sponsored Artificial Intelligence university in Bengaluru.

The AI university aims to nurture advanced AI research and foster collaboration among educational institutions, industry, and government.

Karnataka plans to integrate AI into governance and public service delivery, including education, healthcare, agriculture, and small enterprises.

Shivakumar stated that AI would assist teaching, disease detection, farmer advisory, and government services while helping small businesses become more competitive.

The announcement was made at the Google I/O Connect India 2026 event in Bengaluru.
