Awaiting UT report on smart city funds misappropriation: Centre

Union ministry of housing and urban affairs is awaiting a report from the UT administration on alleged misappropriation of ₹125 crore from the Chandigarh Smart City Mission.

The case relates to balance funds remaining after the Centre's Smart Cities Mission ended on March 31, 2025.

Fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) worth ₹116.8 crore, issued by a bank manager, were found to be fake.

Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari raised the issue in Lok Sabha and has urged the Centre to direct the Reserve Bank of India to investigate.
