Bill Gates' hydrogen superyacht causes noise complaints in Italian village

Bill Gates' $650 million hydrogen superyacht Breakthrough, built for silence, was involved in a noise controversy after an onboard party disturbed residents of Elba Island.

The 390-foot yacht, built by Feadship, uses hydrogen fuel-cell and electric pod propulsion to minimize emissions and noise, making it one of the quietest yachts ever.

Originally commissioned by Gates, it was sold to Canadian billionaire Patrick Dovigi, CEO of GFL Environmental, before delivery.

In late July, music from a party anchored off Scaglieri Beach on Elba Island sparked online protests, though no fines or official investigation were reported.

The support vessel Breakthrough II was also present, and residents complained the music echoed across the Gulf of Biodola.
