Karni Sena members, Jaipur police clash during protest against UGC Regulations 2026

Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and Jaipur police clashed at multiple locations during a protest against UGC Regulations 2026, with scuffles at Kalwar Bridge and Chomu Pulia.

Protesters removed police barricades, leading to a brief tussle; Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Kiran was caught in the jostling.

Police used water cannons to control the crowd, and some protesters attempted to climb onto a water cannon vehicle.

The rally, led by Karni Sena president Mahipal Singh Makrana, was part of the 'Savarna Nyay Yatra' that began nearly 24 days ago from Jaipur to Deshnok in Bikaner district.

UGC Regulations 2026 were notified on January 13 to eliminate caste-based discrimination in colleges and universities, but faced opposition from general category groups; the Supreme Court granted an interim stay on January 29.
