Hundreds flee as wildfire rips through southern France

A fast-moving wildfire erupted Tuesday in southern France's Var region, forcing hundreds from their homes.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters and water-bombing aircraft battled the blaze, which burned 1,700 hectares in hours.

Evacuations occurred around Cotignac, Montfort-sur-Argens, Correns, Ponteves, and Sillans-la-Cascade.

Firefighters carried out over 100 water and retardant drops using Canadair water bombers, helicopters, and Dash aircraft.
