IIT Bombay recommended diverting natural rainwater flow above the tunnel to prevent landslides on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway’s Missing Link.
The MSRDC prepared a safety action plan based on IIT-B’s study using a 1,000-year rainfall return period instead of the previous 100-year assessment.
Immediate measures include installing stronger wire mesh and securing loose boulders, expected within 8-10 days.
Long-term measures such as major drain diversion will be done after the monsoon, taking 1-2 months.
The goal is to achieve zero fatality and zero rockfall on the carriageway of the Missing Link.
