“Act with urgency”, Tibetan Parl-in-Exile calls for global action against China’s new law

The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, based in Dharamshala, issued an open letter urging the international community to act with urgency over China's Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, which took effect on July 1.

The Parliament called on governments, parliaments, the United Nations, and international bodies to monitor the law's implementation and human rights implications.

The leadership denounced the law as a legal assault on Tibetan language, culture, and identity.

The Parliament appealed for the issue to be raised in bilateral and multilateral forums, including the UN, and for measures to counter transnational repression against Tibetan communities.

The letter described the law as a test of international commitment to cultural diversity, freedom of religion, linguistic rights, and minority protections.
