US slaps 10 per cent tariffs on goods imported from India on issue forced labour

in5points
The US imposed 10 per cent tariffs on goods imported from India and 16 other countries over forced labour issues.
USTR Jamieson Greer announced the tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 at President Donald Trump's direction.
The 10 per cent rate applies to 17 economies including India, Canada, the UK, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
India had amended its foreign trade policy on June 14, 2026 to prohibit import of goods produced using forced labour.
India has contested the USTR investigations and insisted these issues be discussed under the bilateral trade agreement.
