Punjab high on immigration frauds, low on prosecution

Punjab received 80 complaints against illegal immigration agents in 2025, up from 18 in 2024 and 56 in 2023.

No prosecution sanctions were issued in Punjab from 2023 to 2025, despite the rise in complaints.

Punjab Police submitted action-taken reports in 69 cases in 2025, compared to 38 FIRs in 2024.

The MEA regulates overseas recruitment agencies under the Emigration Act, 1983, and has notified 3,505 unregistered agents on the eMigrate portal.
