MIT built a 300-gram robot that flies through the sky, dives underwater and takes off again, just like a diving bird

MIT and EPFL engineers developed the Flapping-wing Aerial-aquatic Vehicle (FAAV), a 300-gram robot.

The FAAV mimics diving birds like the Atlantic puffin, flying through air, diving into water, and launching back into air.

It is the first machine to complete the full cycle of swimming, diving, and flying using only its wings, not separate propellers or legs.

The robot's design enables transition between air and water without additional propulsion systems.
