City to get India’s first travelator skywalk linking Metro, Monorail and local trains

MMRDA has completed nearly 90% of India's first travelator skywalk at Mahalaxmi, linking Metro, Monorail and suburban railway.

The 283-metre elevated skywalk features six travelators spanning 176 metres and will reduce transfer time between the three systems by about 20 minutes.

The skywalk connects Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Monorail station, Mahalaxmi Metro station on the Aqua Line, and Mahalaxmi station on Western Railway's suburban network.

The facility has two passenger lifts and can handle around 4,500 passengers per hour, benefiting commuters between south Mumbai, Worli and central suburbs.

Construction required relocating an 1,800-mm-diameter storm-water drain while keeping water and sewer pipelines operational.
