Uttar Pradesh was directed to prepare a time-bound action plan and complete sewage treatment and pollution abatement projects on drains flowing to the Yamuna by January 2028.
The directive was part of the Centre’s Yamuna rejuvenation programme, with Union home minister Amit Shah and the Union home secretary holding regular review meetings.
review meetings generated 91 action points; 44 completed and 47 under implementation.
Five drains from Uttar Pradesh (Ghaziabad and Loni) discharge into Delhi’s Shahdara drain, contributing about 40-45% of its flow before it reaches the Yamuna.
Uttar Pradesh reiterated its demand for its full allocated share of Yamuna waters under the 1994 inter-state agreement.
