Ryan Fox was welcomed home by thousands in Auckland after winning the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.
Fox is the second New Zealander to win the Claret Jug, following Bob Charles in 1963.
He won by one stroke, finishing 10-under par with a 12-foot putt on the final green.
Fox said his head is still spinning from the win and wanted to share the moment with family and friends in New Zealand.
He was asked about making the Australian Open a fifth major but said it would be hard to break tradition.
