Emiliano Martinez contemplating moving away from international football after Argentina's World Cup loss: ‘I’m sorry'

Emiliano Martinez is considering stepping away from international football after Argentina's 0-1 loss to Spain in the FIFA World Cup final.

The 33-year-old Aston Villa goalkeeper featured in every minute of Argentina's eight World Cup matches, with two clean sheets and eight goals conceded.

Martinez posted on Instagram, saying he needs to reflect on whether it's time to step aside from national team duty.

He won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, earning the Golden Glove, and received the Yashin Trophy in 2023 and 2024.

Martinez has 67 caps for Argentina since his international debut and is under contract with Aston Villa until 2029.
