Former '60 Minutes' correspondents Pelley, Alfonsi go from newsroom to classroom

Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi, former '60 Minutes' correspondents, will serve as Journalists in Residence at Columbia Journalism School for the upcoming academic year.

Both were ousted from '60 Minutes' two months ago amid changes by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, including replacing executive producer Tanya Simon with Nick Bilton.

In their part-time positions, they will advise and mentor students, give lectures, and contribute to the Columbia Journalism Review.

Dean Jelani Cobb reached out to Pelley the day after he was fired in early June, and the appointments were kept under wraps until closer to the academic year.

Alfonsi, who spent over a decade at '60 Minutes', called the position 'an extraordinary privilege' and emphasized the importance of rigorous reporting.
