Mumbai: BMC Approves ₹14.5-Crore Contract To Maintain Trash Boom Systems Across 6 Rivers And Nullahs

BMC Standing Committee approved a ₹14.5-crore, two-year contract for operation and maintenance of trash boom systems across six rivers and nullahs in western suburbs.

The floating barriers, installed in July 2022 following NGT directions, intercept plastic and debris before they enter the Arabian Sea to protect mangroves and coastal waters.

The previous maintenance contract expired on September 30, 2025; BMC used a 4% contingency provision to continue operations until the new contract.

M/s Virgo Specialties Pvt Ltd was the lowest bidder in a competitive bidding process, quoting 1.3% below BMC's estimated cost.
