CWG: India miss medal as Ashok Kumar finishes 4th in para powerlifting

India missed a medal in the first championship event of the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Ashok Kumar Malik finished fourth in men's lightweight para powerlifting.

Ashok achieved two successful lifts of 195kg and 200kg, earning 143.8 points, but narrowly missed a podium finish due to the coefficient scoring system based on body weight.

Parmjeet Kumar placed seventh with 135.6 points after failing to complete his lifts successfully.

England's Mark Swan won gold (153.902 points), Nigeria's Roland Ezuruike silver (153.874), and Malaysia's Bonnie Bunyau Gustin bronze (153.5).

Ashok attempted a career-best 205kg in his final lift but could not complete it; even a successful lift would not have moved him from fourth place.
