Woman, one-year-old son killed; relative seriously injured after container truck hits motorcycle

Mangal Prahlad Chopalwad, 25, and her one-year-old son were killed after a container truck hit their motorcycle on Chakan-Nighoje road in Pune district.

Haridas Digambar Utalwad, 40, the brother-in-law riding the motorcycle, sustained grievous injuries and was undergoing treatment.

The accident occurred around 7:30 am on July 26 near Hotel Pancharatna when a speeding container truck allegedly rammed the motorcycle from behind.

The truck driver, Sachin Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, was caught by locals and later arrested; a case was registered under BNS sections including 281 and 106(1) and Motor Vehicles Act section 184.

Police suspected the motorcyclist lost control while trying to avoid a pothole between two trucks, leading to the collision.
