‘Urgent repairs carried out by the contractor prompted us to call off evacuation’

Kohinoor Apartment in Bhiwandi collapsed on Thursday night, killing at least 10 people.

Residents stopped evacuating after the contractor's workers began urgent repairs using wooden beams.

Workers placed wooden beams inside a water tank instead of propping damaged columns from the ground, causing column failure.

The building collapsed around 11:20pm, three hours after cracks appeared at 8:30pm.

NDRF retrieved the tenth victim's body on Friday afternoon.
