Avoid deploying sailors on vessels moving via Strait, DGMA tells companies
India's Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has directed shipowners, managers, and recruitment agencies to avoid deploying Indian seafarers on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz until further orders.
The advisory follows recent attacks on five foreign-flagged merchant vessels, including two on Tuesday that involved 30 Indian seafarers on commercial ships in West Asia.
DG Shipping cited the heightened security situation in the Gulf region and ongoing conflict as reasons for enhanced precautionary measures to protect Indian seafarers.
Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed DG Shipping to create a vessel-by-vessel operational dashboard to account for every ship in the region.
