Govt plans bill to punish those who insult, block Vande Mataram singing
The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill will penalize insult or obstruction to singing Vande Mataram.
The bill was cleared by the Union Cabinet and will be introduced in the Lok Sabha in the session starting July 20.
The home ministry guidelines already made Vande Mataram mandatory at official events where the national anthem is played.
The bill brings Vande Mataram under the same protection as the national anthem, flag, and Constitution.
BJP criticized past secular governments for not giving due place to Vande Mataram due to objections over Hindu imagery.
