Pregnancy found growing near kidneys in rare medical case

Doctors in Delhi treated a woman with a rare retroperitoneal pregnancy located near the kidneys.

The pregnancy developed outside the uterus after uterine wall rupture (uterine dehiscence), with a 12-week fetus found in the retroperitoneal space.

The condition was diagnosed via MRI after ultrasound initially suggested a dermoid cyst.

Laparoscopic surgery was performed to remove the ectopic pregnancy, avoiding major abdominal incision.

Retroperitoneal pregnancy occurs in about 1 in 30,000 pregnancies, and early diagnosis is critical to prevent life-threatening complications.
