Pimpri-Chinchwad commuters avoid Rakshak Chowk flyover

A viral video shows commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad avoiding the Rakshak Chowk flyover and using the road beneath it, months after the ₹22-crore structure opened on May 22, 2026.

Social media users claim the surface road is wider, feels safer, and less congested than the flyover, with some saying the bridge brings a 'negative vibe.'

The flyover on the Aundh-Ravet BRTS corridor was built by PCMC to remove the traffic signal at Rakshak Chowk and improve connectivity between Aundh, Pimple Nilakh, Wakad, Ravet, and Kiwale.

A safety audit flagged the flyover's steep gradient before opening, prompting a 30 kmph speed limit, rumble strips, and reflective signage; two accidents were reported within 24 hours of opening.

PCMC maintains the flyover is structurally safe and urges motorists to follow speed limits, but has not responded to the latest claims about commuters preferring the road below.
