Ludhiana: Banker, father held after wife alleges torture, murder bid

  1. Kuljinder Kaur, a contractual assistant professor at a government college in Mohali, accused her husband Amandeep Singh (a senior bank manager) and father-in-law Balwinder Singh of torture and attempted murder.

  2. The accused were arrested by Sadar police and booked under BNS sections including 109 (attempt to murder) and 85 (dowry harassment); four other family members are wanted.

  3. Kuljinder alleged the harassment started after her recruitment was cancelled; demands for ₹50 lakh for a house and car were made.

  4. She claimed Amandeep Singh attempted to kill her twice during a trip to Kashmir: by leaving a car unbraked on a slope and by trying to push her into Dal Lake.

  5. After returning to Ludhiana, she was allegedly beaten, threatened, denied food, and attacked with a knife before fleeing to her parents.
