Odisha CM renames Phulbani Medical College after Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi renamed Government Medical College and Hospital in Kandhamal district after Vishva Hindu Parishad leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati.

The renaming honors Saraswati's contribution to tribal welfare and education in the district.

The state government allocated ₹13 crore from the Chief Minister’s Special Assistance Fund for development of the Jalespata ashram, its school, and girls’ hostel.

Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was shot dead at his Jalespata ashram on August 23, 2008, sparking communal violence in Kandhamal that killed at least 39 people.
