'Jana Nayagan' opens strong at box office

Thalapathy Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' earned Rs 41 crore net in India and Rs 78.27 crore globally on its opening day.
Directed by H. Vinoth, the film stars Vijay as Vetri Kondan, a former police officer training his adopted daughter Viji (Mamitha Baiju) to become a soldier.
Tamil Nadu led state contributions with Rs 24 crore, followed by Karnataka at Rs 11.25 crore.
The Tamil version recorded a nationwide occupancy of 68.31%, while the Telugu and Hindi versions had 27.81% and 14.60% occupancy respectively.
Bobby Deol plays antagonist John Himler, who plots to trigger widespread unrest in India.
