Chembur Tree Collapse: BMC Inquiry Report Sparks Row As Mayor Ritu Tawde Rejects Clean Chit To Civic

BMC inquiry report cleared its Garden and Roads departments of blame for the Chembur tree collapse that killed an 11-year-old student.

Mayor Ritu Tawde rejected the report's clean chit and demanded criminal action, calling a Rs 7 lakh penalty insufficient.

The report recommended Rs 5 lakh penalty on the contractor and Rs 2 lakh on the consultant for excavation lapses.

Opposition leader Kishori Pednekar accused the BMC of using the report to shield officials and suppress truth.

Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide ordered implementation of recommendations including a standard operating procedure for urban tree safety.
