Kohberger seeks new trial, claims attorneys misled him

Bryan Kohberger, serving four life sentences for the murders of four University of Idaho students, seeks to withdraw his guilty plea via a post-conviction petition.

Sy Ray, the digital forensics expert hired by Kohberger's defense, now says evidence missed shows Kohberger's phone repeatedly collided with victim Madison Mogen's phone, suggesting she was the target.

Ray's recent statements contradict his own January 2025 report, which found no geolocation data linking Kohberger to the victims.

Kohberger alleges his attorneys misled him into pleading guilty, advising him to lie and claiming a 'legal victory' would result from a 'false plea'.

If the petition succeeds, the case could go back to trial, making the death penalty possible again.
