The US passport dropped to 10th place in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, its lowest rank in a decade, tied with Iceland.

More than 30 countries now offer greater travel freedom than the US, with Singapore retaining the top spot.

The 2026 Henley Passport Index compares 199 passports across 227 travel destinations, measuring visa-free or visa-on-arrival access.

The US decline is due to other countries expanding visa-free access through bilateral agreements, not a weakening of the US passport.

India ranked 81st in the 2026 index, with access to 55 destinations without a prior visa, up from 85th in 2025.
