Nepal Rastra Bank confirmed it will mint a new one-rupee coin with a map showing the disputed territories of Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani.
The Nepal government initially approved replacing the map with an image of Lo Ghyakar Monastery, but reversed course after public and opposition pressure.
The new coin will be smaller and lighter than the previous one.
India maintains the territories are part of Uttarakhand and has called for bilateral dialogue.
The disputed map was first adopted by Nepal's official map in May 2020 under then-PM K P Sharma Oli.
