Finger-click faking leads to cricket league investigation

A viral clip appears to show a Saltburn Cricket Club slip fielder clicking his fingers to fake the sound of an edge during a North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League Division Two match.

The umpire raised his finger to dismiss the batter despite a clear gap between bat and ball, sparking accusations of cheating.

Middlesbrough second XI captain Rory Cotterill claimed three similar incidents occurred in the same match, including dismissals of 15- and 16-year-old batters.

The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League confirmed it received a formal complaint and launched a full investigation.

Saltburn's wicketkeeper has reportedly taken 31 catches in his last eight matches, including eight in a single innings, drawing scrutiny.
