Olive oil may reduce heart attack and stroke risk: surgeon

Heart surgeon Dr Jeremy London cites a randomized controlled trial of more than 7,000 people over five years who followed a Mediterranean diet with about four tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil daily.
The study found a 30 percent lower risk of major cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and stroke, in the olive oil group.
Olive oil consumption is consistently linked with a lower risk of heart disease according to large cohort studies, Dr London reports.
Dr London advises that switching to olive oil as a replacement for regular cooking oils can have a meaningful impact on long-term heart health.
