Chief poll officer says ECI to rule on SIR for voters displaced due to redevelopment

Maharashtra CEO S Chockalingam forwarded a proposal to the ECI to amend rules for voters displaced due to redevelopment projects.

The ECI will rule on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) after seeking legal advice on the proposal.

The CEO is considering expanding the list of documents to establish citizenship for vulnerable communities such as the Katkari tribe.

The Maharashtra SIR Jagruti Abhiyan, representing over 20 civil society groups, raised issues including short enumeration timelines and documentation hurdles.

Political parties urged allowing voters displaced by redevelopment to remain enrolled at their original polling booths instead of transit accommodation.
