Russia's Africa Corps kills Mali civilians in 'indiscriminate' attack, says human rights group
Human Rights Watch accused Russia's Africa Corps of unlawfully killing eight civilians, including three children, in a June air strike in central Mali.
The strike on June 15 hit the village of Kyrnia in the Mopti region, with one bomb near the village chief's home and another at a cattle market.
Africa Corps, established by Russia's defence ministry, has largely taken over the mercenary Wagner Group's activities in Africa.
The rights group said no fighters from Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) were believed to have been killed, and the strikes appeared indiscriminate.
Africa Corps posted aerial footage of the strike on Facebook and X, claiming it attacked a 'gathering place of terrorist groups', but HRW geolocated it to Kyrnia.
