One killed in wrong-way crash on Chicago's I-94

A wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in Chicago's South Side on Friday evening, killing one person and injuring several others.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:48 pm in the northbound express lanes of I-94 near 55th Street, according to Illinois State Police.

The wrong-way vehicle entered the interstate near 31st Street, traveling south in northbound lanes before striking multiple vehicles near Garfield Boulevard.

All northbound traffic on I-94 was diverted at 67th Street, causing significant delays during the Friday evening commute.

Traffic reporter Bret Buganski noted the large number of emergency vehicles and that rescue crews were hampered by drivers using the shoulder.
