Gunjan Rathore, a chartered accountant, shared her story with Humans of Bombay about how her husband scammed her parents out of ₹63 lakh.
The scam involved a fake plan to move to the UK, where they both got into the University of Liverpool for a master's programme.
The husband convinced Rathore to take a ₹50 lakh education loan in her name for his education, pretending his family had broken ties with him.
He also tricked her mother into giving him ₹13 lakh for his visa, according to Rathore.
Rathore also mentioned red flags before the wedding, including dowry demands for a car, cash, and silver coins.
