Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari booked in arms licence records case

Uttar Pradesh Police registered a criminal case against Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari, two former district arms clerks, and others over arms licence irregularities linked to the IS-191 gang of Mukhtar Ansari.

The case is the first FIR from a verification drive ordered by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varanasi Range, Vaibhav Krishna, to scrutinise arms licences issued to Mukhtar Ansari, his family, and associates.

Police teams physically verified 145 firearms against 51 licences, uncovering missing original records from the district magistrate's record room, weapon transaction irregularities, and an untraceable rifle purchased on Afzal Ansari's licence.

The FIR includes sections 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, plus sections 21/25 and 30 of the Arms Act.
