BJP leader elected MCD Standing Committee chief for 2nd consecutive term

BJP councillor Satya Sharma was re-elected unopposed as chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) Standing Committee for a second consecutive term.

BJP's Karawal Nagar West councillor Satyapal Singh was also elected unopposed as deputy chairperson.

The election ended a four-month deadlock that had stalled key civic approvals, as the 18-member Standing Committee had not met since March.

The Standing Committee approves municipal projects, contracts, policy decisions, and financial proposals exceeding ₹5 crore.

Sharma outlined priorities including sanitation, solid waste management, healthcare, civic schools, technology-driven governance, and financial consolidation.
