UP govt reconstituted SIT probing alleged theft of cash donations at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, appointing IG (Lucknow range) Kiran S. as head.
New three-member team comprises Kiran S (chairperson), DIG (Ayodhya) Somen Barma and SSP (Ayodhya) Gaurav Grover as members.
Reconstitution follows Supreme Court’s July 20 directive for an IPS-led investigation, replacing earlier panel headed by IAS officer Vijay Vishwas Pant.
Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan also ordered a fresh status report by July 27.
Alleged theft surfaced from CCTV footage at temple’s cash counting centre showing repeated siphoning of cash during counting of devotees’ offerings.
